You’ll find these lakes in the St. Germain area, competing for attention with the likes of Little St. Germain and Lost and Found Lakes. Needless to say they lose and don’t get nearly the action that their larger “cousins” do. There’s perhaps another reason for lack of fishing pressure on these lakes, as well. That is, two of these lakes are nearly impossible to get onto. Moon Lake is supposed to be accessible by navigable channel from Alma, but Guide Todd Powell, 3851 Evergreen Road, Eagle River,
WI 54521 (715) 479-2422, says even he finds the landing only with the greatest difficulty. It’s down a couple of unmarked dirt roads off Birchwood Drive, and it’s shallow, muddy, and usable only by small craft. Which is too bad, because Powell reports Moon is a “real sleeper,” from which a 40-pound Tiger Muskie was pulled several years back. “They’re in there,” Powell says. If you do find the Alma landing, you’ll encounter a shallow, weedy bay where the channel from Alma opens out. This should be fished, preferably with topwater stuff. And don’t neglect the sand points you’ll find here or the small, shallow bar you’ll find off the north side of the inlet bay. On Alma, Powell says the underwater point and hump around the launch site should offer Walleye opportunities. The southwest shore is good for Northerns and Muskies. Catch-and-release is strongly recommended on these lakes.
