INFORMATION FOR BLUE SPRING, LOWER SPRING, ROME MILL POND
These three Jefferson County waters aren’t exactly destination fishing lakes, but they might be worth a look if you’re in the area with the family and have nothing better to do. Lower Spring contains some decent Bluegills and Largemouth Bass, along with some smallish Northern Pike. The south and north shores around midlake offer good weedbeds and cover for the Bass and panfish. Toss plastic worms or spinnerbaits for the bigmouths and crawlers or jig/wax worm combinations for the ‘gills. The Northerns will be prowling the weed edges. Spinnerbaits or sucker minnows will do just fine. Blue Spring, meanwhile, contains plenty of ‘gills for the kids, plus some action on small Largemouth Bass and Northerns. Work the weed edges, points and bays. Rome Pond is a different animal. 1998 there was good fishing for 8- to 9-inch ‘gills, plus some action for decent Largemouth and Northerns. Fish the slop and pockets for all species. The weed edges in the deeper holes also show promise. Amend says red worms and waxies are doing well for ‘gills.
