Yes it does want to make one shiver sometimes. Things were much different back then, but I think in a way the people were stronger. I also admire how much more people relied on their friend and neighbors for help. If you had to build a barn, everyone in the area helped out. In a lot of neighborhoods these days you have to fend for yourself.
