High Falls and Sandstone Flowage draw down

I was in crivitz this weekend and took a few pictures of this event, and hope you also get the chance to see the water at its lowest in 20 years.
WOW!!!!! - well worth the extra drive to see the fall colors also.
Be sure to visit Boat Landing #2 also.
Level was at 12 feet or more down in some areas.
if you cant make the viewing of this unique event heres some pictures from the WPS site.

High Falls and Sandstone Flowage draw down

A unique event in the area this fall is the draw down of High Falls and Sandstone Flowages. WPS is drawing down the flowages about 12 feet in order to do some repair work on the dams and associated levies and such. It will be the lowest water levels on those lakes in about 20 years.

The draw down started with High Falls Flowage on the Tuesday after Labor Day. As of this writing, it is already about 10 feet down, and it looks a lot different.

The flowages mean a lot of different things to a lot of people. Fall muskie hunters probably aren't thrilled about the draw down, but the word is that they will be fishing across the street on Caldron Falls Flowage.

Likewise, Ice fishermen will be affected by this, depending on when they start refilling the reservoirs. The last that I heard, they would be refilled about mid-January. That could lead to some changing ice conditions. Again, local ice fishermen are planning a visit to Caldron Falls Flowage this winter until the roof on High Falls becomes safe.

This brings an unique opportunity to see the Peshtigo River through the High Falls and Sandstone flowage areas. One friend canoed down High Falls Flowage the other day and said it was a very memorable trip. It would be fun and interesting to see what is below the water.

Other canoeists and kayakers have discovered that the releases have raised water levels downstream of the flowages on the Peshtigo River. With a dry summer, most of our rivers are pretty rocky. With these releases raising water levels, the lower Peshtigo River makes an ideal spot for a fall color canoe trip.
