With me it depends, I have several accounts for different online concerns and one for me personally but I just don't keep up with following it or posting anymore. I think for some people it just clicks and others it doesn't.
One method I use for updating Twitter for my local websites is to use Hootsuite and Ping.fm. Hootsuite allows you to write the tweets in advance and schedule their release Ping.fm allows you to then syndicate those tweets to your blog, Facebook, Twitter and 20 plus other web 2.0 properties. Hootsuite tweets to Ping.fm where it is distributed to whatever you want to update. Works great.
