All PMs here are set to alert me via email so even if I'm not here at the Bubbler, I'll generally see it within an hour if I'm home. Many times I'm here but set to "invisible" so I may see a PM sooner.
As for changing that setting, it's really up to Keith or one of the Admins/Programmers, I don't have that power and have no idea why it's set that way. They may have a good reason for doing so or it may have been an oversight.
I don't see any problem in allowing users to edit their own posts. Most forums allow you to do so but append a timestamp to show the post has been changed.
