It ocurred to me that these economies can work on a smaller scale as well.. they don't necessarily have to be city-wide. They could conceivably work in smaller sections of the community (neighborhoods, apartment complexes).. anywhere people might barter products or services.

Many forums facilitate a form of "barter currency" in the form of points awarded for posting or performing other services on the forum. Then those points can be exchanged with other users.
